Sept. 18 Lecture

September 18, 2009

Lecture Notes:
1) Cell wall & membrane proteins-
a) Integral membrane proteins- proteins in cell membranes that span or are imbedded within the entire membrane
i) Any
b) Peripheral membrane proteins – proteins that only attach to part of a cell membrane or are only part of the cell wall
2) Adhesins Membrane/ Cell Wall proteins are used to stick to surfaces typically peripheral membrane proteins (imbedded in part do not go all the way through)
a) Spans part of cell membrane not the entire thing
b) Ex. Adhesions on the ends of pili
i) Pili are retractable extensions from the bacterial cell envelope
