November 11th notes

3.) b.) Codon. - 3 base long sequence on mRNA that corresponds to particular amino acid.
1.)Redundant codons: More than one codon per amino acid.
c.) Ribosome attaches to mRNA at Shine-Dalgar sequence, a specific series of bases on mRNA that are complementary to sequence of bases in rRNA.
d.)Ribosome moves 1 base at a time down mRNA until it reacehs AUG. - This defines "reading frame" of mRNA.
e.)tRNA: Clover leaf shaped with anicodon on one side, amino acid on other. rRNA bring in tRNA and matches themw ith codons of mRNA.
f.) rRNA forms bond between amino acids that are adjacent to each other
g.) Because no tRNA with anticodon complementary to stop codons - proteins called Release Factors bind with stop codons, catalyze release of amino acid chain from riobsom, and ribosome form mRNA.
