Dna must be unwound and unzipped before it can be transcribed this is because single dna strands serve as a template for different RNA copies
elongation: rna strand synthesized by pairing complementry rna bases with dna template strand and hooking those bases together with sugar phosphate backbone
termination: rna polymerase reaches loop and cant get past
end of dna gets folded back on itself ecause they are complementary to itself its called hairpin loop
because rna polymerase can only move along ss dna so rna polymerase falls off dna strand releasing new ssrna
