III Phases of bacterial growth curve in culture
A) Lag phase takes a while to go from a few bacteria to a lot, bacteria cell division getting started generation times not as rapid as will be during exponential phase
bacteria are making: atp, cellular envelop stuff enzymes like dna polymerase and fts2
B) exponential phase (log phase) during this page generation
so bacteria are easily able to make all components needed for division
C) stationary phase- number of deaths=number of new bacteria- bacteria running out of nutrients- unable to make things needed for cell division; also, lack of food
D) Death phase- number of deaths is greater than the number of new bacterial cell division essentially stopped because they are nearly out of food; lack of food also causes deaths
suicide at high population densities common among bacteria
