Mutations

Mutations: change in DNA sequence of an organism

I. Point mutations
- mutation to DNA that changes just one base.

i. missense mutation: change to DNA sequence that causes change to amino acid sequence of protein
ii. nonsense mutation: change to DNA so there's now an early stop codon in the mRNA, SO SHORT PROTEIN
iii. silent mutation: change in DNA sequence, but no change to amino acid sequence
ex) original CTT (GAA) vs CTC (GAG) both = Glu as amino acid.

II. Frame-shift mutations
- Addition or deletion of 1-2 bases
