Procedure for Gram Stains

1. put bacteria on slide and let air dry
2. heat or methanol fix
3. cover bacteria with crystal violet and let sit > 1 min.
4. rinse gently and blot
5. cover with gram iodine and let sit for 30 sec.
6. rinse gently and blot
7. decolorize with 5-12 drops of E+OH
8. rinse gently and blot
9. cover with safranin for > 1 min.
10. rinse and blot

you can now look at your slide through the microscope!
