Gram Stain Directions

-Put bacteria (from broth or plate) on slide and let air dry
-Heat or methal fix
-Cover bacteria with crystal violet and let sit at least for one minute
-Rinse gently and blot
-Cover with gram iodine for thirty seconds
-Rinse gently and blot
-Decolorize with 5-12 drops of E+OH
-Rinse gently and blot
-Cover with Safranin for one minute
-Rinse gently and blot
-Look at slide!
